The bells, the Easter Bunny, or mum and dad: for many children, it doesn't matter where the Easter eggs come from, as long as they can enjoy the chocolate eggs.

The custom of hiding or giving Easter eggs to children at Easter originates from the Germanic tradition of burying eggs, a symbol of fertility, in fields to make them fertile. Easter eggs are also mentioned in the Christian tradition: when fasting was introduced, the Church forbade the eating of eggs between Ash Wednesday and Easter. These eggs were only eaten at Easter, with the oldest eggs used for decoration. Some theories suggest that the Easter egg represents the stone from Joseph of Arimathea's grave, from which Jesus Christ rose. Catholics brought baskets full of eggs to the church to be blessed. In some countries, this custom is still honoured today. The entire village would head to the church with baskets full of food to be blessed.

According to the Catholic faith, Easter eggs are thrown by the bells of Rome. Protestants are said to have added the figure of the Easter Bunny to this.

But, above all, enjoy all the goodies and family happiness during this beautiful time.

Enjoy your meal!
