The United States will no longer play the role of mediator in negotiations with Russia and Ukraine. The two parties will have to come to an agreement themselves, said Tammy Bruce, spokesperson for the US Department of State.

"It's certain that we are still engaged in this process and that we will help and do what we can. But we will not be jetting around the world to serve as mediators in meetings, which are now held between the two parties," said Tammy Bruce.

According to her, other regions of the world require attention. "Secretary of State Marco Rubio also made it very clear that while our style will change, the methodology of our contribution to this process will also change, in that we will not be mediators," she added.
When asked whether the United States is prepared to impose secondary sanctions on buyers of Russian oil, similar to those imposed on Iran, the State Department spokesperson stated that US President Donald Trump had reiterated his willingness to act in this way.

"It's clear that we're not lifting any existing sanctions. The president wants, in every action we have taken as a nation, to do so diplomatically."
