For the first time, Ukraine has captured Chinese combatants at the front.

The Ukrainian army has captured two Chinese soldiers fighting alongside Russia during battles in eastern Ukraine. This is new because until now it was not known that Russia was also employing Chinese soldiers. Ukrainian President Zelensky is demanding an explanation from Beijing, describing it as “a clear signal that Putin intends to do everything but end the war.”

President Zelensky also accuses China of actively supporting Russia in the war against Ukraine. This is remarkable since Beijing has always claimed to be neutral.

Zelensky stressed at a press conference held on Tuesday with the Belgian Prime Minister that two Chinese individuals have been detained in the eastern oblast of Donetsk. Four other Chinese involved in the fighting escaped. “Identification documents, bank cards, and personal information have been found in their possession. We have information suggesting that many more Chinese are fighting with the occupiers and are now investigating all the facts,” said Zelensky.

Zelensky states that a response is needed from the United States, the European Union, and “everyone in the world who wants peace.”
