Putin invasion backfires as Russian troops running out of weapons

Vladimir Putin may not be able to sustain the war in Ukraine for much longer due to growing shortages of weapons and military equipment, according to several Western security experts.

After more than three years of conflict, and despite Moscow’s massive financial efforts, Russia’s stockpiles are reportedly running low—even though the Ukrainian army remains less well equipped.

Despite some recent gains on the battlefield, Russian forces have only managed to capture an additional 0.6% of territory over the past 12 months, while suffering heavy human losses.

Richard Barrons, the former head of Britain’s Joint Forces Command, told The Washington Post:
"It is very unlikely now that the Russian military have the equipment, the people, and the training and logistics to mount an offensive that would break the Ukrainian line and — even if they did — to exploit it immediately."

Russia has lost a significant number of tanks over the course of the war. In an effort to avoid a full depletion, President Putin has reportedly ordered the requisitioning of tanks from military museums.

The Kremlin has also relied on military aid from North Korea, which is said to have sent a contingent of 11,000 troops to fight in the Kursk region.
