Vladimir Putin has been forced to urgently relocate strategic bombers after Ukraine carried out a major coordinated drone strike targeting multiple Russian airbases.

The Russian president ordered the transfer of two Tupolev Tu-160 bombers, capable of carrying nuclear warheads, to the remote city of Anadyr in the far east of the country — a move seen as both reactive and strategic.

This abrupt decision follows the success of Operation ‘Spider Web,’ a Ukrainian campaign that used 117 drones launched from inside Russian territory to hit multiple military airfields. The unprecedented assault reportedly damaged 41 aircraft, dealing a heavy blow to Russia’s air power.

Military analysts say the crippling effect of Western sanctions will prevent Moscow from easily replacing the damaged aircraft, many of which are considered priceless assets of Russia’s long-range air fleet.

The relocation of the Tu-160s means they are no longer available for combat operations over Ukraine, where they had recently been deployed for strike missions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is prepared to launch similar large-scale operations again if it pressures the Kremlin to end the war.
