US war veteran tries to hijack plane, is shot dead by passenger

An American attempted to hijack a Cessna Grand Caravan of the Belizean airline Tropic Air on Thursday in Corozal, in the north of Belize.

The plane, carrying fourteen passengers and two crew members, was en route to the island of San Pedro, when the American suddenly brandished a knife and stabbed three people. He hijacked the small plane, which eventually had to land at Ladyville Airport due to a fuel shortage after flying for several more hours. During the landing, a passenger with a gun licence was able to shoot the perpetrator dead. It is still unclear what motivated the 49-year-old American. Presumably, he had poor mental health.
