On Tuesday, during a social security conference, Joe Biden delivered his first public speech since leaving the White House. He took the opportunity to criticise the policies of his successor.

"It's not even been 100 days and this new administration has caused so much damage and so much destruction." Biden accuses Donald Trump of destroying the foundations of the American welfare state. Social Security, a pillar of the United States' retirement system, providing benefits to nearly 68 million citizens, was central to his speech. "They're hacking away at Social Security, laying off 7,000 civil servants, including the most experienced ones," According to Joe Biden, this strategy is aimed at "providing enormous tax cuts to billionaires", reports the media outlet 20 Minutes.

The trust relationship must be maintained

The former president emphasised the importance of keeping this system alive: "It's not just about retirement pensions. It's about honouring a fundamental trust between the state and the people," he stated.

Moreover, Biden questioned the appointment of Elon Musk, whom he calls an "anti-fraud expert", to lead the Department of Government Efficiency. Biden sees Musk, commissioned by Trump, as the embodiment of an ideological dismantling intent.

Joe Biden, in a thirty-minute speech, also asserted that "Social Security deserves to be protected for the good of the entire nation".
