Ukraine's counteroffer to the United States

For the first time, Ukraine admits negotiations on a possible cession of Russian-speaking territories in exchange for peace guarantees for the future.

According to the counteroffer, reported by Reuters, Ukraine demands a "complete and unconditional" ceasefire on land, at sea, and in the air.

The current situation doesn't mean that Ukraine will recognise the currently occupied territories as Russian, but, for the first time, it admits that the issue can be discussed. Ukraine should regain control of the Zaporiyia nuclear plant, among other demands. Negotiations on territory should begin, according to the approach, based on the current frontline.

Ukraine may have to cede territories to Russia to achieve a "temporary peace" in the conflict between them, said the mayor of Kyiv, former boxer Vitali Klitschko, in an interview with the BBC on Friday.

"One of the scenarios would involve ceding territories. It's unfair, but for peace, a temporary peace, it might be a solution, temporary", said the former heavyweight world champion.
