'Ukraine shoots down Russian fighter jet with attack drone'

The Ukrainian Defence Intelligence Service reported on Saturday that a Ukrainian attack drone has shot down a Russian jet fighter for the first time.

It reportedly shot down the SU-30 jet over the Black Sea.

In video footage, which was posted online and has not yet been independently verified, the jet is seen being hit by a Ukrainian Magura drone and then crashing into the Black Sea.

"This is the first time in the world that a combat aircraft has been destroyed by a naval drone", the Ukrainian Defence Intelligence Service said in a statement on Saturday. "The aircraft caught fire and eventually crashed into the sea."

Kiev does not have an air force with jet fighters like Russia and therefore uses attack drones. These are controlled remotely via a Starlink connection and can be pre-programmed to cover long distances over the Black Sea.
