Ukraine has already disrupted Russia’s upcoming Victory Day celebrations, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s forces reportedly launching a fresh incursion into Russia’s Kursk region.

Several pro-military Russian Telegram channels reported that Ukrainian troops crossed the border near the village of Tetskino, signaling a new offensive.

This latest operation comes despite Russia’s recent claim that it had reasserted control over Kursk following a Ukrainian breach last summer.

According to Kyiv-based journalist Euan MacDonald, Ukraine may be attempting to secure a symbolic territorial gain before Russia’s May 9 festivities. He wrote on X: “Using the Seym River to protect their left flank, and the Ukraine/Russia border on the right, they could nip off a 50km² chunk of Russia with a defendable 6km front in time for Russia’s Victory Day.”

Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, stated in a Facebook post that the operation in Kursk had met most of its objectives.
