UK launches its 'death network' cyber command against Russia

The UK is establishing a new cyber command that will conduct offensive operations against hostile states, including Russia.

According to The Telegraph, the British government is set to allocate over a billion pounds (£1,188 billion) to the development of its hacking and artificial intelligence capabilities.

The UK defence secretary, John Healey, announced this investment in artificial intelligence and a dedicated team of hackers.

Mr Healey pledged to provide the British armed forces with more tools to carry out online operations against hostile states such as Russia, warning that "the keyboard has become a weapon of war."

These offensive operations will be carried out by the newly created Cyber and Electromagnetic Command, which will also oversee investments in enhanced targeting systems powered by artificial intelligence, forming a "death network" connecting military systems.

When asked whether the Ministry of Defence was expanding its capacity to target hostile states such as Russia and China, Mr Healey responded affirmatively.

"The cyber command forms part of a new authority for both cyber defence and offence," he said.

The UK and its allies have recently uncovered a large-scale cyber attack orchestrated by Russian intelligence services against Western companies supporting Ukraine.
