Vance blames Putin for asking ‘too much’

U.S. Vice President JD Vance has criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for being overly demanding in stalled peace negotiations over the conflict in Ukraine.

Speaking at a conference alongside high-ranking military officials and diplomatic leaders, Vance emphasized that the White House remains committed to encouraging direct talks between Ukraine and Russia.

“I wouldn’t say that the Russians are uninterested in bringing this thing to a resolution. What I would say is, right now, the Russians are asking for a certain set of requirements, a certain set of concessions in order to end the conflict. We think they’re asking for too much. OK?” he said during an interview with Munich Security Conference Chairman Wolfgang Ischinger.

Following Vance’s comments, former President Donald Trump echoed the sentiment, expressing frustration over the lack of progress.

“We are getting to a point where some decisions are going to have to be made. I’m not happy about it… I’m not happy about it,” he admitted.

Last week, Washington announced that U.S. officials would no longer travel to Russia for direct talks with the Russian leader, signaling a shift in diplomatic efforts.
