Trump’s aide reveals ‘red line’ Iran can’t cross over nuclear deal

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has outlined the "red line" Iran must not cross in upcoming discussions over a new nuclear agreement.

The two countries — whose diplomatic ties have grown increasingly strained since Donald Trump's return to the White House — are set to hold negotiations this weekend in Oman, a neutral venue.

Witkoff stressed that Iran must not, under any circumstances, develop nuclear weapons and that its nuclear program must be completely dismantled. However, the Trump ally acknowledged that compromises would be necessary to reach a deal.

"I think our position begins with dismantlement of your program. That is our position today. That doesn't mean, by the way, that at the margin we're not going to find other ways to find compromise between the two countries," he told The Wall Street Journal.

"As for our red line — there can't be weaponization of your nuclear capability," he added.

President Trump recently threatened to "bomb" Iran if the Middle Eastern country refused to engage in negotiations.
