U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order barring nationals from 12 countries from entering the United States.

Trump cited a recent attack in Colorado over the weekend to justify the decision, claiming the incident highlights the "extreme dangers" posed by foreign nationals present on American soil.

"We will not allow people to enter our country who wish to do us harm," the president said.

The countries affected by the ban are: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

Citizens from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela will face partial restrictions.

The president stated that the U.S. must ensure that individuals coming into the country do not hold a “hostile attitude toward our citizens, our culture, our government, our institutions, and our founding principles.

During his previous term, Trump had already implemented a controversial travel ban targeting several Muslim-majority countries.
