U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth expressed hope that diplomacy would lead to a new nuclear agreement with Iran, but warned that Washington is prepared to strike "far, deep, and big" if necessary.

His warning comes just days after the first round of discussions between the two sides took place in Oman, on neutral ground. While the talks were praised as a "good step," no concrete progress has yet been achieved.

Since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, Washington has been urging Tehran to scale back its nuclear program, warning of potential military action if no agreement is reached.

The U.S. President has repeatedly threatened to "bomb" Iran if a deal isn't finalized within the coming weeks.

Appearing on CBS, Hegseth stressed that the administration is ready if diplomacy fails: "We've shown a capability to go far, deep, and big. Again, we don't want to do that, but if we have to, we will — to prevent a nuclear bomb from falling into Iran's hands," he said.
