According to the Washington Post, the Trump administration has proposed to nearly halve the budget of the US State Department and cut spending on humanitarian aid, global health, and international organizations.

Humanitarian aid would be reduced by 54% and global health funding by 55%.

The cuts would be particularly severe, with support for international organizations being reduced by 90%. According to the internal memorandum, funding for the United Nations, NATO, and 20 other organizations would be reduced, from the US State Department.

The memorandum also outlines a complete reduction in funding for international peacekeeping missions, citing recent failures of the missions without providing details.

The proposed funding cuts coincide with Trump's attempt to refocus US relations with the world, with Washington abruptly abandoning its history of adhering to international organizations and using humanitarian aid to build and maintain alliances.

The department, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is preparing its reduction plan which would eliminate tens of thousands of staff from the department's 80,000 employees and close many US consulates around the world.
