Trump plans to raise taxes for the wealthiest Americans. The increase would affect individuals earning more than $2.5 million (£2.2 million) or couples with incomes exceeding $5 million (£4.4 million).
According to the Financial Times, which cites sources within the White House, Mr. Trump is said to have proposed introducing a 39.6% tax for individuals earning more than $2.5 million (£2.2 million) per year or couples with incomes of at least $5 million (£4.4 million), compared to the current maximum of 37% for those earning more than $626,350 (£555,390).
On this topic, Trump himself aimed to bring the matter to the forefront on Friday by highlighting the issue of a "minimum tax increase" on his Truth Social platform, and that he would "willingly" pay to help low and middle incomes.
The discussion on a potential tax increase on wealthy Americans is taking place amidst talks between the White House and Capitol Hill Republicans to accelerate the fiscal package, which would extend the harsh tax cuts implemented by Trump himself in 2017, which expire next year.
