The White House is seriously considering inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Alaska for possible peace talks, in conjunction with the planned meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15, 2025.
No official invitation has been confirmed, and Zelensky's participation remains uncertain. The idea of a trilateral summit bringing together Zelensky, Trump, and Putin is under discussion, but the White House is primarily focused on organizing the bilateral meeting requested by President Putin. Sources within the US administration describe Zelensky's participation as "entirely possible," and many officials express hope that it will take place.
If Zelensky is invited, it is uncertain whether he and Putin will meet directly, as negotiations could take place without the two leaders being in the same room.
This meeting is part of a new diplomatic initiative aimed at securing a ceasefire in Ukraine, with Trump aiming to broker a deal. Putin has proposed a peace framework that would allow Russia to retain a significant portion of Ukrainian territory, which Zelensky has publicly rejected, insisting that Ukraine "will not cede its land to the occupiers."
Trump has hinted at the possibility of a "mutually beneficial territorial swap," but Ukrainian leaders and many European leaders remain opposed to any territorial concessions.
