Trump launches verbal attack against Zelensky

The American President Donald Trump on Wednesday accused his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymir Zelensky, of jeopardising a deal to end the war with his statements in which he refuses to recognise Crimea as Russian territory.

"These statements are very detrimental to the peace negotiations with Russia, because Crimea was lost years ago under Barack Obama (2009-2017) and is not even a point of discussion," he stated on his platform Truth Social.

"No one is asking Zelensky to recognise Crimea as Russian territory, but if he wants it, why did they not fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without a shot fired?" added Trump.
The recognition of Crimea as Russian territory has emerged as one of the aspects that Ukraine is likely to accept in exchange for a peace agreement aimed at ending the war that began in February 2022.

However, Mr. Zelensky recently stated that Ukraine "will not legally recognise the occupation" by Russia.
