Last Tuesday, Donald Trump made a most surprising announcement during his speech to Congress: a 13-year-old boy with brain cancer has been appointed a secret agent.

DJ Daniel is a young 13-year-old suffering from brain cancer. On March 4, he became a member of the Secret Service, reports the New York Post. “Tonight, DJ, we're going to give you the greatest honour. I'm asking our new director of secret services, Sean Curran, to officially appoint you as a Secret Service agent of the United States,” said Donald Trump to his audience. An announcement that the teenager didn't seem to expect, as he was accompanied by his father in the gallery of the House of Representatives.

A badge was then given to DJ Daniel, who proudly brandished it atop his father's shoulders, under a salvo of applause. “In 2018, DJ was diagnosed with brain cancer. Doctors gave him at most five months to live. That was over six years ago,” emphasised the American president. Since that diagnosis, the teenager has undergone 13 brain operations and has survived.

A dream close to his heart

The White House occupant added: “DJ's doctors believe his cancer is probably due to a chemical he was exposed to when he was younger. Since 1975, cancer rates in children have increased by more than 40%. Reversing this trend is one of the main priorities of our new presidential commission.”

DJ Daniel always wanted to become a police officer. Since the announcement of his illness, he has been sworn in several times as an honorary law enforcement officer, reports the media 20 Minutes. According to Trump, he's also adored by the police services.

“I would like to thank President Trump because without him I wouldn't be here today,” said DJ Daniel after this significant gesture.
