A 69-year-old Belgian drowned on holiday on Sunday evening in the marina of Spanish Alicante. He is thought to have had too much to drink.
Witnesses saw how the tourist fell into the water around 10:20 pm, hitting his head when he collided with the edge of the quay or one of the pier constructions with his yacht. German tourists heard noise and went to have a look. When they shone a flashlight into the water, they saw a man floating. According to Todo Alicante, the German tourist immediately jumped into the water to help the man. The German woman then attempted to resuscitate the victim, but ultimately the Belgian tourist died.
The Spanish press reports that the Belgian was likely under the influence of alcohol.
