The world's richest man has just posted a video on X in which Tesla's fully autonomous driving system, “Full Self-Driving” (FSD), is demonstrated right in the middle of Paris, at Place de l’Etoile.

Although this autopilot system has not been approved for use in France (nor anywhere else in Europe), that hasn’t stopped Elon Musk from proudly displaying it, hoping to boost his brand’s image. Nonetheless, the manufacturer notes that the driving is “supervised”. Someone remains in the driver’s seat, attentive to the road and keeping their hands on the wheel, ready to intervene at any time and take over from the FSD. Furthermore, Tesla (and its founder) are delighted to see that the system “can get out of the Arc de Triomphe without any problem”.

A new challenge in France

In the nearly one-minute video, identified by BFM Tech & Co, the car independently finds its place in unpredictable traffic, stops and starts off as needed, all without any intervention from the driver. “If there’s a bigger roundabout in France, please let us know in the comments,” says Tesla, probably looking for a new challenge to show off the full extent of its expertise.

In December 2024, Le monde reported that "Paris dreams of becoming the capital of positive AI with the organization of an international summit in February 2025".
