In February, a frightening sound was broadcast by the US Coast Guard: possibly the acoustic signature of the Titan implosion.
The Titan submersible imploded on 18 June 2023 during what was supposed to be an expedition to the Titanic wreckage.
It's the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), using a specific device, that was able to capture the sound clip: what appears to be the acoustic signature of the American submersible’s implosion, owned by the company OceanGate, reports the media outlet La Dépêche.
The recorder captured the signal nearly 1.5 kilometres (900 miles) from the area where the accident occurred, specifies CNN. A new element that has been added to the investigation file on the causes of the implosion.
A frightening sound
In the clip, you can hear a background noise, followed by a rumble (like an explosion). The rumble gradually fades, giving way to the initial crackling.
As La Dépêche highlights, last September, the US Coast Guard held hearings, with the aim of determining the exact causes of the accident and ascertaining whether crimes had been committed and/or criminal charges could be filed.
To date, the findings of the investigation have still not been filed.
