Immediately after the start of the large-scale Russian invasion, Poland proved to be Ukraine's best friend among all its neighbours. Its leaders, unlike many Western ones, did not urge Ukrainians to surrender and believed it was possible to stop Russia.

Indeed, it was to Poland that the main flows of Ukrainian refugees headed, and many of them have remained there to this day.

For Piotr Łukasiewicz, the Polish chargé d'affaires in Ukraine: "What we know for certain is that Ukraine will emerge victorious from this war. That is my general position, my overall observation and my strong belief – very strong – that Ukraine will prevail and will be victorious in this war. Peace will be achieved by Ukraine thanks to Ukraine’s own strength, but also thanks to the strong alliance that supports Ukraine, which includes the European Union, Ukraine’s European allies including Poland and the United States, and, in general, a coalition of democratic countries, including many outside Europe."

According to Łukasiewicz: "Ukraine’s many allies are determined and committed to support Ukraine in order to end this war victoriously."
