The United States is currently developing a powerful new nuclear weapon that is set to enter production seven months ahead of schedule, as tensions with China continue to escalate.

Scientists at the Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico are working on the B61-13 nuclear gravity bomb, which was originally scheduled to begin production next year.
A gravity bomb is dropped from an aircraft and relies on gravity to reach its target.

However, the production timeline has been accelerated to quickly field a new nuclear deterrent.
The B61-13 bomb is 24 times more powerful than the one dropped on Hiroshima in 1945, and it was initially intended to replace older bombs starting in 2028.

But the trade war launched by Washington, along with growing tensions with China and Russia, has forced the U.S. to fast-track development of the weapon, which could now be deployed on the battlefield by the end of the year.
