UK secretly preparing plans to strike back at Russia

The United Kingdom is currently preparing updated contingency plans to respond in the event of a Russian attack on a NATO member state.

For months, NATO countries have warned that Vladimir Putin could potentially launch an offensive against one of the alliance’s members. In response, several nations have already announced increases in their defense budgets to prepare for any scenario.

Under NATO’s Article 5, an attack on one member is considered an attack on all, requiring collective military support from the rest of the alliance.

According to The Telegraph, British officials are revising homeland defense plans originally drawn up two decades ago to address how the UK would respond to a hostile strike, including one on British soil.

The new “Homeland Defence Plan” will account for retaliation with conventional or nuclear weapons, as well as potential cyber operations.

“The U.K. has robust plans in place for a range of potential emergencies that have been developed and tested over many years,” a government spokesperson said.

The UK remains one of Ukraine’s key allies, even as Moscow has repeatedly threatened to target nations providing military aid to Kyiv.
