The United Kingdom has intensified its economic sanctions on Vladimir Putin’s Russia, focusing on the financial, military, and energy sectors in response to Moscow’s continued refusal to engage in peace negotiations over Ukraine.

London announced new financial measures targeting 30 entities directly or indirectly supporting Russia’s war effort.

Among the key targets are 20 oil tankers belonging to the so-called “shadow fleet”, used by Moscow to bypass international sanctions. Sanctions have also been imposed on Orion Star Group LLC and Valegro LLC-FZ, two companies responsible for staffing and operating these vessels.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “These sanctions strike right at the heart of Putin’s war machine, choking off his ability to continue his barbaric war in Ukraine. We know that our sanctions are hitting hard, so while Putin shows total disregard for peace, we will not hesitate to keep tightening the screws.

He added: “The threat posed by Russia cannot be underestimated, so I’m determined to take every step necessary to protect our national security and keep our country safe and secure.

Meanwhile, G7 members are discussing a new price cap on Russian oil in an effort to further cripple the Kremlin’s financial resources.
