Jakob Ingebrigtsen's medals have a dark cloud hanging over them. The Norwegian GOAT was abused as a child by his father, who was also his coach at the time.

Gjert Ingebrigtsen is currently facing trial in Norway for the years of abuse inflicted upon his son Jakob and his daughter Ingrid.

The father and former coach of top athlete Jakob Ingebrigtsen is alleged to have abused his children for years. In October 2023, brothers Jakob, Henrik, and Filip spoke openly about the violence they grew up with. "We grew up with a very aggressive and controlling father," they wrote in an opinion piece in the Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang. "He threatened us and used physical violence."

"We still feel discomfort and fear that we've been carrying with us since childhood," the three athletes further wrote.

This week, the trial started against the 59-year-old father of the world's fastest brothers. Gjert Ingebrigtsen risks facing up to 6 years in prison. A verdict is expected in June.
