North Korean soldiers cross the border, South Korea sends a message

The South Korean military fired several warning shots after about a dozen North Korean soldiers crossed into its territory.

According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the North Korean soldiers turned back after hearing warning messages broadcast over loudspeakers. No further incidents were reported throughout the day, but Seoul has maintained heightened vigilance in this highly sensitive area.

The incident, described as a “serious provocation”, comes amid the highest tensions between the two countries in decades.

Pyongyang has repeatedly condemned the growing military cooperation between South Korea and the United States, as Kim Jong-un’s regime continues its push for nuclear deterrence.

"Our military issued warnings and fired warning shots, and the North Korean soldiers retreated. We are closely observing the North's military movements and taking necessary measures to plan our strategy," a South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff official said.

The demilitarized zone (DMZ) separating the two countries stretches for 248 kilometers and remains one of the most heavily fortified borders in the world.
