The scientific community is enthusiastic with the potential of a 17-year-old

Hannah Cairo, a 17-year-old girl, is about to become a real world star in mathematics.

Originally from Nassau, Bahamas, Hannah Cairo was homeschooled and early on demonstrated an exceptional aptitude for self-taught mathematics. By age 11, she had already mastered calculus and advanced university courses, and at age 14, she published her first paper on number theory.

In August, she refuted the Mizohata-Takeuchi conjecture, a problem that had remained unresolved for 40 years in the field of harmonic analysis. Hannah Cairo successfully found a counterexample that refuted this hypothesis, demonstrating that certain functions could not be represented in the manner postulated by the conjecture, thus challenging a deeply held belief in the scientific community.

Her discovery was greeted with astonishment and admiration by mathematicians around the world, opening new avenues of research in this field.

Although she doesn't have a traditional high school or college degree, Hannah is about to begin a PhD in mathematics at the University of Maryland and leads initiatives to promote mathematical talent in young people.
