Kremlin inflicts humiliating blow to Trump

The Kremlin has dismissed public criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump after he called Vladimir Putin “absolutely crazy” in response to an unprecedented Russian assault on Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed Trump’s remarks, which were posted on Truth Social, where the American president condemned the war and said that many people are being killed for nothing.

“We are really grateful to the Americans and to President Trump personally for their assistance in organizing and launching this negotiation process,” Peskov told reporters on Monday.

He added: “Of course, at the same time, this is a very crucial moment, which is associated, of course, with emotional strain for absolutely everyone, and with emotional reactions.”

On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for new sanctions targeting Russian oil, in response to the continued attacks.

Despite Trump’s role as a mediator in ongoing peace talks, Russia has continued launching drone and missile strikes on Ukraine, and no formal date for negotiations has yet been agreed.
