The Kremlin believes that the call for a ceasefire in Ukraine is seen as an attempt to give the Ukrainian army time to rearm.

Russia has sent its "signal to the United States", says Vladimir Putin's aide, Yuri Ushakov, quoted by RIA Novosti.

"We perceive this as an attempt to give a break to the Ukrainian forces, who are currently experiencing a difficult period. The Russian army is advancing on all fronts and, in this situation, we could consider (the ceasefire) as an attempt to give the Ukrainian forces time to rearm and regroup", Mr Ushakov said.

Ushakov stated that Russia had expressed its "concerns" to the United States.

According to Ushakov, contacts between Russia and the United States are ongoing, but they're not at the level of presidential meetings.

He added that a meeting between the American president Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin would be organised as soon as the need arose. Ushakov asserted that the meeting could be organised quite quickly.
