NATO sounds the alarm as Russian threat deemed ‘real’

The head of the British Army has warned that the threat facing NATO is "real", urging the alliance to prepare for significant challenges in the coming years—especially from Russia.

Member nations of the military alliance have already taken drastic measures to reinforce their defenses, particularly as Moscow has recently massed troops and military equipment near the Finnish border.

"We really have got some serious challenges to deal with collectively. The biggest challenge we face—of many—is simply a lack of time," said General Sir Roland Walker, Chief of the British Army, during a speech at the Royal United Services Institute in London.

NATO also faces financial uncertainty, largely due to Donald Trump’s repeated threats to withdraw the United States from the alliance, which would cut off critical American funding.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia could be preparing for a potential attack within the next two to four years.

In response to the growing threat, countries such as Germany have pledged to increase their defense budgets, with a target of reaching 5% of GDP by 2030.
