The European Union and the United States have reached a trade agreement after several months of deadlock between the two economic blocs.
U.S. President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen agreed to set a 15% U.S. tariff on all European goods. The U.S. will also exempt certain products from these tariffs.
Von der Leyen welcomed the deal, saying it would bring greater stability to both markets.
Trump had previously threatened to impose a 30% tariff on European exports and had issued an ultimatum to the EU before reaching this agreement.
Speaking from Scotland, where he is currently on a visit, the U.S. president said: “We have reached a deal. It's a good deal for everybody. It's going to bring us closer together.”
With this aggressive approach, Washington aims to reduce the trade deficit that has been building up over recent years.
