The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, called on Tuesday for military support for Ukraine to strengthen its negotiating position.
She emphasised that Russia "cannot wage this war indefinitely". "We welcome ceasefire negotiations and the initial steps taken in this direction", she said during a speech at the European Parliament.
Ms. Kallas emphasised that the EU, although it's not part of these negotiations between the United States, Russia and Ukraine, "remains relevant and has tools to influence the outcome, such as sanctions, which weaken Russia".
"Ukraine must also be helped, because the stronger it is on the battlefield, the stronger it is at the negotiating table", she stated. Ms. Kallas recently suggested that the EU provide an additional €40 billion to Ukraine this year, but facing the coolness of some member states towards this plan, she insisted at least €5 billion be urgently provided to supply munitions to Kyiv.
