Musk predicts bleak future for humanity as he urges to colonise Mars

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has long made the colonization of Mars one of his top priorities, investing billions of dollars into his company SpaceX to develop the technology needed to reach and inhabit the Red Planet.

In an interview with Fox News, the billionaire explained the reasoning behind his massive investment in this mission.

"Mars is life insurance for life collectively. Eventually, all life on Earth will be destroyed by the sun. The sun is gradually expanding, and at some point, we need to become a multi-planet civilization because Earth will be incinerated," he said.

Beyond just a scientific endeavor, Musk — a close ally of Donald Trump — sees the mission as a way to preserve humanity by relocating it to a new home.

"We have a long way to go, because it’s not just about landing on Mars and doing flags and footprints," he added.

According to NASA, the sun could run out of energy in about five billion years. As it nears the end of its life cycle, it will expand and may engulf Mercury, Venus, and potentially Earth.
