Ukraine has just made a new purchase, and it's a significant one: two Swedish ASC 890 aircraft. A weapon that could be a turning point in the conflict.

This Tuesday, it was announced by the Ukrainian media Euromaidan that the Swedes have committed to delivering two ASC 890 aircraft to Volodymyr Zelensky's armed forces. This is the most significant military aid provided by the country, costing more than $1 billion.

Real-time data

According to Euromaidan, the ASC 890 is more than just a plane, it's primarily a super radar that "offers a detection range of up to 450 kilometres and can simultaneously track multiple targets, including aircraft, missiles, and drones". This weapon is described as a "major reinforcement for Ukrainian defence". "Operating at high altitudes of 6,000 metres, the ASC 890 can monitor vast areas, providing real-time data to command centres and enhancing situational awareness".

As the media L'indépendant points out, the ASC 890 will enable F-16 fighter jets, which have limited radar ranges, to "see". Moreover, it's a good alternative to less effective and more vulnerable ground-based radars.
