It's still a strange habit and a remarkable example of pointless human herd behaviour.
All too often, passengers on aeroplanes unfasten their seatbelts and stand up before the signal has been given and before the plane has come to a complete stop. In Turkey, they are now going to take action against this.
Turkey can now fine passengers who unfasten their seatbelts, leave their seats before the plane has finished taxiing, or open the overhead lockers before being instructed to do so. This is possible thanks to new rules issued this month by the Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
“Passengers who do not comply with the rules will be reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation through a report of passenger aviation disturbance and will receive an administrative fine,” the Turkish government announced. The amount of the fine has not yet been disclosed.
