Trump’s international tariffs trigger boycott of American products

Since Donald Trump unveiled his new international tariffs last week, a growing number of social media users have called for a boycott of American products.

With the new country-adjusted taxation system, the Trump administration aims to reduce last year’s U.S. trade deficit. However, economists widely agree that the tariffs are more likely to impact consumers than solve trade imbalances.

The phrase "Boycott USA" quickly began trending on X (formerly Twitter), while Google reported a spike in searches related to the boycott across multiple countries.

Many users vowed not to visit the United States or purchase American-made goods in response to the new tariffs.

China has already retaliated, imposing tariffs of up to 34%, calling the U.S. measures a form of economic harassment.

Earlier last week, the European Union also announced it had a "strong plan" to counter the American tariffs.
