Several cities across Russia have announced the cancellation of Victory Day celebrations due to the threat of Ukrainian drone attacks, dealing a blow to President Vladimir Putin.

While numerous world leaders are expected to attend the main festivities in Moscow’s Red Square on May 9, concerns are growing over a possible Ukrainian strike during the event, which commemorates the Allied victory in World War II in 1945.

According to the independent Russian outlet Verstka, numerous municipalities have called off their planned celebrations due to ongoing Ukrainian bombardments.

Concerts and parades have been canceled in the Moscow region, as well as in the provinces of Vladimir, Lipetsk, Vologda, and Mordovia.

In Yegoryevsk, a town near the Russian capital, a ceremony honoring fallen soldiers has been moved from the cemetery to a local church “for security reasons.”

Earlier this week, multiple airports were disrupted by Ukrainian drone attacks, affecting around 60,000 travelers and 350 commercial flights.
