Scientists based in Beijing have developed a spy satellite capable of detecting facial details from a staggering 100 km (62 miles) away.

This means that once in orbit, the satellite will be able to clearly see people’s faces on Earth.

According to the South China Morning Post, the satellite will also be capable of capturing high-resolution images of foreign military satellites. The new technology is expected to be deployed in the near future, the media outlet reported.

Robert Morton, an author and member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO), called the technology a “massive security concern.”

"Millimeter resolution from 60+ miles up? That’s next-level surveillance," he wrote on X.

Many experts agree that this satellite poses a serious threat to privacy.

Natallia Catarina, CEO of Beam Wallet, commented: "Now only clouds will save us from Chinese spies."
