Russia’s foreign intelligence service (SVR) accused one of its European allies on Thursday of covertly supplying military equipment to Ukraine.

In a statement published on its official website, the SVR alleged that at least seven Serbian companies had shipped missiles, weapons, and ammunition using falsified certificates and so-called "intermediary countries."

These shipments can hardly be justified on ‘humanitarian grounds.’ Their only obvious purpose is to kill and maim Russian servicemen and civilians,” the intelligence agency claimed.

Serbia is traditionally seen as one of Russia’s closest allies in Europe, along with Hungary. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić was one of the only European leaders to attend Russia’s Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9.

Back in March, Serbia denied rumors that it had supplied arms to Ukraine. However, a report from the Financial Times contradicted that position, claiming the country had delivered nearly $800 million worth of military aid to Ukraine.

Following that report, President Vučić responded: “We have friends in Kyiv and in Moscow. These are our Slav brothers. I need to take care of my people, and that’s it.
