In a video released by the Rubicon Center of Advanced Unmanned Technologies (the Kremlin’s elite drone group), a Russian drone can be seen destroying a HIMARS rocket launcher – a weapon supplied by Washington and frequently used by Zelensky’s forces against critical Russian infrastructure.

“Near Donetsk. 30km from the front line, the Rubicon combat group discovered and destroyed the HIMARS,” read a message on Telegram. American launchers are regularly used to destroy advanced command posts and anti-aircraft missile systems, inflicting significant losses on Kremlin forces.

An unprecedented attack

This time, it's Kyiv that has been struck. The attack by a Russian fibre-optic drone is said to have occurred in the Donetsk region, around 30 kilometres behind the front line. If the HIMARS rocket launcher was indeed destroyed, this operation would be completely unprecedented, as Russia had not succeeded in eliminating any of these US-supplied weapons with a drone since the start of the war in February 2022, as reported by L’Indépendant.

It's worth noting that Washington has supplied Kyiv with 39 HIMARS launchers since the conflict began, most of which are deployed in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
