According to various Russian sources, Russian General Yaroslav Moskalik (59), deputy head of the main operational department of the Russian General Staff, was killed in a targeted car bomb attack in the Russian capital Moscow. This is reported by BBC News, the Russian state news agency TASS, and various local news agencies.
The explosion took place in Balashikha, an eastern suburb of Moscow. There has been no official confirmation yet from the Kremlin. State news agency TASS confirms that a car bomb explosion took place in Balashikha and that the Russian general died in the incident. The general was walking past the vehicle - a Volkswagen - when the explosion occurred around 10.40 am. The car was parked near his residence in the city of Balashikha, in the central part of the Russian Moscow oblast. It is believed to be an 'improvised explosive device, IED'.
