Germany and its partners have agreed to exhaust all possibilities to impose sanctions on Russia for its refusal to establish a ceasefire, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said in an interview with Zeit.
Mr Merz said that at the level of heads of state and government, they had agreed that it was now necessary to exhaust all possibilities. He said they were discussing new sanctions in the energy and banking sectors, additional measures on assets and sanctions against individuals, and that they were working on this with their European partners.
Western countries have threatened the Kremlin with the consequences of its refusal to negotiate. Jean-Noël Barrot , the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that Moscow could face devastating sanctions to "bring Russia to its knees".
