On 9 May, Russia commemorates the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, which marked the end of the Second World War. This came at a cost of 27 million Russian lives. Each year on 9 May, a large military parade takes place in Moscow. And this year, tensions are running particularly high.

The internet issues in Moscow, which have persisted for a few days already, will only be fully resolved by Saturday. The Kremlin confirmed this on Wednesday. This means that the internet will only be fully available again in and around Moscow after the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Allies' victory in the Second World War. Dmitry Peskov stated that there were no disruptions, but deliberate restrictions in mobile internet traffic due to the "dangerous region" the country finds itself in. He referred to it as a "precautionary measure" and asked for understanding. Preventive restrictions will therefore be maintained until Friday to ensure safety during the parade and other festivities.
