Russia deploys Chinese drone-killer laser to avoid new ‘Pearl Harbour’

Russia has reportedly begun deploying a Chinese-made weapon designed to neutralize drones, in a move aimed at preventing another devastating incident like the so-called “Russian Pearl Harbor” that occurred over the weekend.

As drone strikes grow increasingly destructive, Moscow has turned to China for support, acquiring the Bullet Curtain — a kinetic defense system that saturates the airspace with a thick wall of shrapnel to destroy incoming UAVs.

Several videos circulating on social media appear to show a system strikingly similar to China’s Shen Nung 3000/5000.

While the information has yet to be officially confirmed, The War Zone (TWZ) reported that the resemblance to the Chinese system is “striking.”

“It features a large single opening on the left side. There’s also a more squared-off aperture on the right... A similar, if not identical, layout appears in Chinese marketing material for another anti-drone laser weapon called Shen Nung (also transliterated as Shennong). Containerized and truck-mounted versions on the 4×4 Dongfeng Mengshi — the Shen Nung 5000 and 3000 — have at least been publicly proposed in the past,” the outlet wrote.

Earlier this year, Beijing claimed it had “never supplied lethal weapons” to Russia, following accusations made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
