Russia loses big after Ukraine obliterates 16 million dollar helicopter in single attack

Russia has lost a highly valuable combat helicopter after a successful drone strike, according to the Ukrainian military.

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces reported that they targeted and destroyed a Ka-52 “Alligator” attack helicopter, estimated to be worth $16 million, during an operation over Ukrainian territory.

Ukrainian forces have consistently relied on drones to eliminate enemy targets. These drones have been significantly upgraded and are now capable of traveling longer distances, even striking targets deep inside Russian territory.

The Special Operations Forces shared a video of the drone strike on social media but did not disclose further details about the mission.

This is not the first time Kyiv has downed a Ka-52. In May 2024, another was shot down, and a separate helicopter was destroyed in February in the Donetsk region.

Since the beginning of the war, Ukrainian drones have caused major damage — targeting Russian troops, warships, aircraft, and even military infrastructure.

On Saturday, Ukraine’s Security Service announced the destruction of an ammunition depot used by Russia’s 126th Coastal Defense Brigade in southern Crimea.

The Special Operations Forces’ Bombus Balista unit commented: "The Ka-52 attempted a combat patrol over Ukrainian fields, but did not anticipate the presence of our tactical drone group, Bombus."
