An excerpt from Valentine Low's book, devoted entirely to Queen Camilla, reveals a pivotal moment in the life of Charles III's wife: a sexual assault during a train journey.
It was in the Sunday Times that we learned that at 16, Camilla Parker Bowles had had a close call on a train to Paddington. An anecdote the Queen shared with Boris Johnson when he was Mayor of London.
And here's what the extract from the book by Valentine Low, journalist and former Times correspondent, reveals: "She was on a train to Paddington, she was about 16 or 17, and a guy was moving his hand further and further away." Queen Camilla, in a defensive impulse, then took off her shoe to "kick him in the testicles with her heel." Luckily, the story didn't end tragically: "She was sufficiently composed when they arrived at Paddington to jump off the train, find a man in uniform, and say, 'This man has just attacked me, and he's been arrested,'" Low says.
Camilla Parker Bowles has consistently shown her support for victims of sexual violence and has campaigned for the cause. She has even expressed her desire to create a first aid kit for all victims.
