Putin nearly died in his helicopter

On 20 May, while on his way to visit the Kursk region, Russian President Vladimir Putin found himself at the centre of an attack by Ukrainian drones.

The helicopter carrying Vladimir Putin, making its first trip to Kursk since Ukrainian forces were driven out of the region, was caught right in the epicentre of a massive attack by Ukrainian drones, according to the Russian news agency RIA.

Yuri Dashkin, commander of the Russian air defence division, shared details of the incident on the Rossiya 1 television channel. “(The President's helicopter was, editor's note) actually at the epicentre of the suppression of a massive enemy drone attack,” he said, noting that the attack had been successfully repelled and Russian forces had fully ensured the Kremlin leader's safety.

Upon arrival at his destination, Vladimir Putin met with numerous local officials and volunteer organisations. At the end of April, the Russian army claimed to have completely driven Ukrainian troops out of the Kursk region, ending the largest incursion into Russian territory since the Second World War, according to the media outlet L’Indépendant.
